February 26, 2024:
Beginning April 1, 2024, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and Credentia are making changes to the skills component of the Nurse Aide State-Approved Competency Exam.  Modifications implemented during COVID-19 are being removed.  To learn more, please review Credentia’s website and how to complete each skill in the Nurse Aide Candidate Handbook. 

June 1, 2023:
Private Duty Employment:

  • Nurse Aide hired by a licensed healthcare facility or agency to provide nursing or nursing-related services in the home is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.
  • Medication Aide hired by a licensed healthcare facility or agency to provide medication administration services in the home is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.
  • Medicaid CAP/DA Waiver Program is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.
  • Medicaid CAP/C Waiver Program is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.

All reciprocity candidates must use the most current version of the application on the website, or your application will be denied.

April 13, 2023:
Temporary Nurse Aide Notice:
Based on current advisement from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), all Temporary Nurse Aides (TNA) are required to complete and pass both the written and skills exams by September 10, 2023. TNAs will not be allowed to test after September 10, 2023, and will not be refunded for any exam scheduled after September 10, 2023. It is advised that all TNAs complete testing as soon as possible.

February 6, 2023:
Paper Renewal Form:
DHSR is no longer accepting the emergency paper renewal form from healthcare providers to renew a Nurse Aide listing on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. Please submit the online renewal forms.
