July 2025

Candidates Testing With Credentia – Per North Carolina Session Law 2025-47 (Senate Bill 391), Class C licenses (standard passenger vehicle licenses) expiring on or after July 1, 2025, will be accepted for two years beyond the printed expiration date. The NC Division of Motor Vehicles will allow this process until December 31, 2027. This does not apply to commercial driver licenses, or any licenses that are suspended, revoked, or cancelled.

June 2025:

The Registry Office is pleased to announce that applications and forms can now be submitted electronically to [email protected] and have been updated to reflect this change. Beginning August 1, 2025, we will no longer accept faxed documentation or previous versions of forms and applications posted to our website. If you have questions, please contact the Registry Office at 919-855-3969 (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm; 1:00pm-3:00 pm).

December 2024:

Candidates Testing With Credentia – The NC Division of Motor Vehicles issues a paper certificate for temporary licenses, permits, and identifications that is valid for 60 days. This is a valid form of identification for the nurse aide and medication aide state-approved exams. On the day of the exam, you are not required to bring an expired form of identification along with the new temporary certificate.

February 26, 2024:

Beginning April 1, 2024, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and Credentia are making changes to the skills component of the Nurse Aide I state-approved competency evaluation.

Modifications implemented during COVID-19 are being removed.

June 1, 2023:

Nurse Aide hired by a DHSR licensed healthcare facility or agency to provide nursing or nursing-related services in the home is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.

Medication Aide hired by a DHSR licensed healthcare facility or agency to provide medication administration services in the home is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.

Medicaid CAP/DA Waiver Program is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.

Medicaid CAP/C Waiver Program is not considered private duty employment for registry renewal.

April 13, 2023:

Based on current advisement from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), all Temporary Nurse Aides (TNA) are required to complete and pass both the written and skills exams by September 10, 2023.

TNAs will not be allowed to test after September 10, 2023, and will not be refunded for any exam scheduled after September 10, 2023.

It is advised that all TNAs complete testing as soon as possible.

February 6, 2023:

DHSR is no longer accepting the paper renewal form from healthcare providers to renew a listing on the Nurse Aide I Registry.
