  7. There is no North Carolina state-approved Geriatric Aide competency exam.

  8. How do I get listed on the registry?

  9. Geriatric Aides are individuals who are listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry as a Nurse Aide I and who have completed the North Carolina state-approved Geriatric Aide training program.

    To become a Geriatric Aide:

      • You must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry as a Nurse Aide I.
      • You must successfully complete a North Carolina state-approved Geriatric Aide training program.

    Once you have successfully completed the program, the instructor will submit your name to DHSR to be added to the North Carolina Geriatric Aide Registry.

  12. How long does it take to be listed on the registry?

  13. Individuals are listed on the North Carolina Geriatric Aide Registry within 10 business days once DHSR has been notified by the training program that an individual successfully completed the North Carolina state-approved Geriatric Aide training program.

  23. North Carolina is not a Geriatric Aide reciprocity state.

  25. You must contact the registry in the state where you are moving to obtain state requirements.

  28. How can I report name/address changes to the registry?

  29. You may report changes to DHSR by submitting the Name and Address Change Form.  

    You are asked to voluntarily provide your Social Security Number (SSN). This number is for record keeping and registry identification purposes only. Your SSN will remain confidential and will not be disclosed to the public. 

    All documents submitted to the registry may be verified with the issuing source.

    It is the responsibility of the Geriatric Aide to ensure their name and contact information is up to date in the North Carolina Geriatric Aide Registry.
