Individuals must successfully complete the North Carolina state-approved Geriatric Aide training program.

Retraining is not required once you successfully complete the training program.
There is no competency exam.
Geriatric Aides are individuals who are listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry as a Nurse Aide I and completed the North Carolina state-approved Geriatric Aide training program.
Training programs should submit your name to the Division of Health Service Regulation to be added to the registry.
There are no registry fees.
Individuals are listed on the North Carolina Geriatric Aide Registry within 5 business days after the training program notifies the Division of Health Service Regulation that the individual successfully completed the course.

You must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry as a Nurse Aide I before you can be listed on the North Carolina Geriatric Aide Registry.

North Carolina does not list individuals who completed Geriatric Aide training by reciprocity, endorsement, or transfer from other states.
You must contact the registry in the other state to determine their requirements.
You will not receive a card.
You can report changes to the Division of Health Service Regulation by submitting the Registry Change Request Form.
You will be asked to voluntarily provide your Social Security Number (SSN). This number is for record keeping and registry identification purposes only. Your SSN will remain confidential and will not be disclosed to the public.
All documents submitted to the registry may be verified with the issuing source.
