Eligibility Types and Requirements
Below are the eligibility types and requirements for the Nurse Aide I examination:
- E1 – For applicants who completed a North Carolina state-approved Nurse Aide training program.
- E3 – For applicants that completed a North Carolina state-approved Nurse Aide refresher training program.
- E5 – For applicants who are currently enrolled in a North Carolina state-approved nursing education program preparing for Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse licensure.
- E8 – For applicants that:
- Have an out of state, non-compact, nurse license in active and good standing status.
- Have a college degree in nursing but are not currently licensed.
- Are currently enrolled in a nursing school program not located in North Carolina.
- Previously been enrolled in a nursing school program but not currently licensed. These individuals must have completed a nurse aide equivalent course in a nursing school in the past two (2) years.
- Have a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic unencumbered credential.
- Are military personnel who received nursing and/or medical training credentials equivalent to nurse aide training while in the United States Armed Forces.
- E9 – For applicants who successfully completed a state-approved Nurse Aide training program in another state, excluding North Carolina, within the previous 2 years and are not listed on any state’s registry of nurse aides.
- E10 – For applicants listed as active and in good standing status on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry but do not meet the requirements for registry listing renewal.
